Constitution

Writing a constitution demands a lot of thought. Our Constitution defines the fundamental law that governs the rights and duties of the National Union and its Officers, of its local unions and their officers. Our Constitution states our aims and objectives and outlines our decision-making structures.

It is not easy to amend a constitution once it is approved. This body of stable rules and powers outlines the procedures for making changes to the Constitution itself.

A consultation process was launched to draft our Constitution. Suggestions were made, and a task force was struck by the Executive to review them and report to the Convention which approved our Constitution.

Our approved Canadian Constitution is different because it includes a national vision. Important powers are given to local unions and councils. We believe that our Constitution is close to our Canadian reality.
